As I have mentioned in a previous post, I am participating in the Electronic Village Online 2010. I had signed up for two groups connected to Second Life, but after reviewing my priorities, I decided that I wanted to be a part of BAW10 instead of Virtual Language Traveling. My Reasons? My previous experience with EVO was a bit chaotic, as instead of taking the Becoming a Webhead class first, I jumped straight into Multiliteracies and Second Life…kind of jumping to the deep end of the pool without learning how to swim first. Of course, it ended up in learning about a lot of resources but not making much sense out of all of it (totally my fault, mind you!).
And so here I am “Becoming a Webhead” as I should have done last year, and trying to STOP and THINK, try to make sense out of things, put this virtual house in order let’s say…and find who I am in this virtual world. For now, I feel more a learner than a teacher, but have I not always felt like that to start with?
Becoming a Webhead has the following goals:
Objectives
In the course of the 6 weeks, participants will learn collaboratively and hands on to:
- use various synchronous and asynchronous web tools for learning and teaching EFL/ESL,
- interact through e-mail, text chat, voice chat, voice and video mail, and distribution lists, among others,
- create wikis, blogs, podcasts and interactive exercises related to their own contexts, and,
- reflect on ways of applying those tools to their teaching, either online or face-to-face.
As you can see, it’s quite “comprehensive” for only six weeks, so let’s hope this time around I manage to make it to graduation day!
